Our communication is based on 4 communication standards.
We check how well we are meeting these standards using indicators.
Standard 1
We recognise and respect that every community includes people who communicate in different ways.
Indicators of meeting this standard:
- We design everything from the beginning to be as inclusive as possible.
- We always use a range of inclusive communication approaches.
Standard 2
We find out how the people we work with prefer to communicate.
Indicators of meeting this standard:
We ask people where, when and how they want to communicate with us.
We keep a private record of what they tell us.
Standard 3
We take all action possible to be communication inclusive.
Indicators of meeting this standard:
- We train everyone who works with us about communication inclusion.
- We meet people where they choose.
- We communicate with people in the ways they find easiest to understand.
- We support people to express themselves in ways that work for them.
- We offer individual communication support when people tell us they need it.
Standard 4
We keep taking actions to improve our communication.
Indicators of meeting this standard:
We ask people who communicate in different ways to tell us what they think about our communication.
We change the way we communication based on what they tell us.
